The Space Apps Challenge is an international technology development event, led by NASA, where citizens from all around the world and aboard the International Space Station will work together to develop solutions to pre-determined challenges aiming to advance space technology to improve our world.
Anyone can participate – engineers, developers, scientists, designers, artists, educators, students, entrepreneurs – if you are willing to contribute, like interesting problems and are passionate about improving life on Earth then you have something to offer!
The challenges are in four categories:
- Open hardware
- Citizen science
- Data visualisation
Some challenges have already been proposed, but you can also submit your own ideas. Participants at the events will collaborate by forming teams focussed on solving a particular challenge and will compete with other teams around the world to use publicly available data to design innovative “solutions” to these challenges.
We are really fortunate to have an event happening in our own city, at the Met Office. It would be really great to have some girl geeks taking part You can register for the event at https://spaceappschallenge.org/register/. We’ll be talking about this at our next meeting and encouraging all our members to join in.
